The Academy aims to be a bridge to industry for bright new talent, using the concept and method of 'critical practice', which addresses the need for a broad range of skills and innovation. ‘Critical practice' transcends traditional fields within the audio visual landscape: the Academy's purpose is to develop knowledge and understanding through active enquiry, practical work and reflective processes.
Graduates gain strong conceptual, critical and creative skills alongside a broad range of transferable practical skills. By teaching in a way which is both intellectually challenging and vocationally appropriate, the Academy aims to produce graduates who are daring, employable, innovative and skilled.
For Goldsmiths, University of London Skillset Media Academy, 'critical practice' is all about the freedom to experiment, to think differently, to be individual. The Academy tries to bring creative and unconventional approaches to all of the MAs: a diverse postgraduate media programme embedded in a rich, high-rated University research environment.
